Minor Earthquake at New Jersey

An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 was recorded at 10:34 p.m according to Won-Young Kim, a seismologist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N.Y., at the central New Jersey which rattled the windows and alarmed all the residents and several communities.

Some communities affected are the Morris County communities of Rockaway, Dover and Morris Plains, according to Won-Young Kim, a seismologist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N.Y.

There were no reports of any damages or injuries. Generally earthquakes with such lesser magnitude can be felt only by the people. There was a flood of calls to 911 after the minor shakes and was reported to the police as some explosions and the houses are shaking.

Bruce Presgrave, a geophysicist with the USGS National Earthquake Center in Colorado said "It's very unlikely that there would be any damage at all, nor would we expect any casualties from a quake this size, this size quake is in some cases not even felt at all, but this time of night ... it's much more likely for people to feel it ".
